How much coffee is consumed worldwide?
The ICO estimates that world coffee consumption will be 175.1 million bags in 2024/25, growing 1.4% year-on-year. The volume of coffee consumption in producing countries grew to 57.7 million from 56.3 million bags, whereas Asia and Oceania have been seen as the regions with the highest rate of growth in the annual ICO survey.
Market expansion can also occur due to the demand from emerging economies and higher interest in specialty coffee and product innovation in the future, according to FAO.
Which countries are the biggest producers of coffee?
The leader in coffee production remains Brazil. Based on USDA's data for 2025/26, Brazil produces approximately 63 million bags, accounting for 35.2% of worldwide production. According to a USDA Foreign Agricultural Service report of 2026, Brazil's production in 2026/27 will amount to 71.9 million bags, up 14% from its 2025/26 estimate, driven by the favourable part of the biennial production cycle, weather conditions and increased acreage.
